1. (A) Ladakh

The 4th LG Horse Polo Cup 2024 was inaugurated by Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra, at the Horse Polo Ground in Goshan Drass, Ladakh. Ladakh’s first Polo Stadium, built at a cost of 6.84 crore rupees, was also unveiled at the event. This highlights Ladakh’s commitment to preserving its polo heritage and promoting sports infrastructure for local talent and tourism.

2. (C) Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh has approved 35% reservation for women in all state government recruitments. This decision was made under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla. The recruitment age for assistant professors in medical colleges has been increased. These initiatives aim to empower women, boost employment, improve citizens’ lives, and drive economic growth.

The Karnataka Board of Waqfs claims 17 monuments inside the historic Bidar Fort as its property. The Archaeological Survey of India, the official custodian of the fort, is reportedly unaware of this claim. Bidar Fort is located in Bidar city on Karnataka’s northern plateau. The fort’s history spans over 500 years, beginning with the Western Chalukya dynasty. Sultan Ahmed Shah Wali of the Bahmani dynasty chose Bidar as his capital in 1430 and transformed the fort into a grand citadel. The fort is constructed from trap rock, with stone and mortar fort walls. Its entrance gate features a high dome, originally painted with vibrant colors inside.

The Seventh Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in New Delhi focused on sustainable energy and agrivoltaic farming. Agrivoltaic farming involves using land for both agriculture and solar energy generation, with crops growing under solar panels. It maximizes land efficiency, provides shade to crops, reduces heat stress, and supports climate resilience. This practice boosts renewable energy generation, contributes to food security, and offers economic benefits by diversifying income through both crops and solar energy.

A new jumping spider species, Okinawicius tekdi, was discovered on Baner Hill in Pune, emphasizing the area’s biodiversity. The name “tekdi” comes from the Marathi word for hill. This discovery brings the total number of jumping spider species in India to 326. The spider was first described by Atharva Kulkarni, an MSc student at MIT-World Peace University. Pune last recorded a new spider species over 30 years ago. Spiders are arthropods with segmented bodies, eight legs, and a hard exoskeleton. They spin webs to trap their prey.
