The Ministry of Education has extended the deadline for students to apply for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the academic year 2024–2025. Students can apply for scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
What is NSP?
The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a one stop shop for students looking for financial assistance to pursue their education. Launched by the Government of India, NSP offers various scholarships to help talented and deserving students from various backgrounds.
NSP Scholarship Application
As of October 15, 2024, 84,606 new applications and 158,312 renewal applications have been submitted. Scholarship amount under NMMSS is directly transferred to selected students’ bank accounts using Public Financial Management System (PFMS) and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method. This ensures that funds are deposited quickly and securely. To qualify, students should score at least 55% in their class VII exams. For SC/ST students, the provision is relaxed up to 50%. Additionally, the annual income of parents is Rs. Do not exceed. 3.5 lakhs.
NSP Scholarship Amount:
According to the official announcement: “The program provides a new scholarship of Rs 1 lakh annually to Class IX students who have successfully completed the qualifying examination conducted by the State/UT administrations. The scholarship is renewable for Classes X to XII depending on the academic status of the student. Only those enrolled in local body, government-aided and state government schools Students are eligible for an annual scholarship award per student.
Eligibility Criteria for NSP:
Before applying for any scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal, it is important to check the eligibility criteria. Although each scholarship has specific requirements, there are some general criteria that apply to most of the scholarships listed.
Citizenship: Be an Indian citizen.
Financial Standards : Coming from a financially weak family.
Annual Income: Annual family income is Rs. Less than 2,50,000.
Academic Performance : Maintain good academic performance.
Additional Criteria : Meet any additional requirements (such as disability or minority status) for the scholarship you are applying for.
