    1. B [New Zealand]

    New Zealand won their first Women’s T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa by 32 runs. This victory marked a historic day for New Zealand cricket, as the men’s team also achieved their first Test win in India in 36 years. The 9th ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup was originally scheduled for Bangladesh but was moved to the UAE due to political instability. Bangladesh and the UAE shared hosting rights, with matches held in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20, 2024.

    2. B [Russia]

    In the changing global political scenario, the BRICS Summit is being organized from 22 to 24 October 2024 in Kazan, Russia, hosted by Russia. Russia, China, India, South Africa and five new members Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia are participating in this summit.

    3. A [Orchid]

    A new orchid species, Coelogyne tripurensis, was discovered in Jampui Hills, Tripura. It comes from moist broadleaf forests in the Indo-Myanmar Biodiversity Hotspot. The genus Coelogyne has around 600 species, native to the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Pacific Islands. These orchids are mostly epiphytic, valued for their ornamental appeal and easy growth. The new species belongs to the Fuliginosae section, known for showy flowers and a unique labellum. High phenotypic plasticity makes species in this group hard to classify.

    4. B [Saharanpur]

    PM Modi inaugurated airports in Rewa (Madhya Pradesh), Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) and Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) under the UDAN scheme. The government has recently extended the Udan scheme for 10 years. The aim of this initiative is to enhance regional connectivity.

    5. D [Tamil Nadu]

    Copper plate inscriptions from the 16th century were found at Sri Singeeswarar temple in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and located in Mappedu Village. It was originally built by Aditya Karikalan II in 976 AD, father of Chola emperor Rajaraja Cholan. Krishnadevaraya’s viceroy, Dalavai Ariyanadha Mudaliar, added the Rajagopuram, compound wall, and 16-pillar Mandap in 1501. The temple features Dravidian architecture with a 5-tier Rajagopuram. The main deity, Singeeswarar, is worshipped in the form of a large Shiva Lingam

    6. C [Glasgow]

    Of the 12 sports in which India won medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, six have been dropped from the 2026 edition. Which includes badminton, cricket, hockey, squash, table tennis and wrestling. The 2026 edition of the Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow. In the year 2022 CWG, India had won 61 medals including 22 gold.

    7. D [Panaji]

    The National Para-Swimming Championship 2024 is being organized in Panaji. Lakhan Singh of Rajasthan won the gold medal in the men’s S4 100m freestyle event. In the S5 100m freestyle, Odisha’s Narhari won the gold medal. Maharashtra’s Chaitanya performed brilliantly in the S6 100m freestyle and won the gold medal.  

    8. C [Qatar]

    Cyclone ‘Dana’ is expected to hit the Odisha coast on Thursday morning and the wind speed can reach up to 120 km/h. Cyclone Dana was named by Qatar according to the tropical cyclone naming system devised by the World Meteorological Organization.
