    EXPLANATIONS

    1. (C) National Investigation Agency (NIA)

The National Investigation Agency organized the two-day Anti-Terror Conference-2024 in New Delhi to strengthen coordination in the fight against terrorism. The conference aimed at fostering a ‘Whole of Government’ approach and generating insights for future policies. It brought together operational forces, technical, legal, and forensic experts to discuss national security and terrorism threats. Key topics included legal frameworks for counter-terrorism, emerging technologies, international cooperation, and dismantling terror ecosystems. Senior police officers, central agency officials, and experts from law, forensics, and technology attended to share experiences and best practices.

    2. (B) Anil Pradhan

Anil Pradhan, a 28-year-old engineer from Odisha, won the third Rohini Nayyar Prize for promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in rural India. He co-founded the Young Tinker Foundation and launched ‘Tinker-on-Wheels,’ a mobile lab bringing robotics and 3D printing to rural students. His work has impacted over 2.5 lakh students across Odisha, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. The Rohini Nayyar Prize, honoring contributions to rural development, includes ₹10 lakh, a citation, and a trophy. It’s awarded annually to individuals under 40 by the Nayyar Foundation.

    3. (A) C-DOT and IIT-Roorkee

Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee signed an agreement under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) to develop a 5G “millimeter wave transceiver” for rural connectivity. Millimeter waves (30-300 GHz frequency) allow high-speed wireless communication with low latency and less interference. The project promotes local manufacturing, encouraging small and medium industries, creating job opportunities for engineering graduates. The use of polymer-metal structures reduces dependence on semiconductor industries, with a small development cost. It aims to generate Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and build a skilled workforce for 5G/6G technology.

    4. (C) Poorvi Prahaar

After disengagement in eastern Ladakh, India launched the ‘Poorvi Prahaar’ tri-services exercise on November 8. The 10-day exercise involved the Army, Navy, and Air Force, highlighting their combat coordination. The Army deployed units, artillery, Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), and UAVs. The Air Force used Su-30 MKI, Rafale jets, C-130J aircraft, and helicopters from Kolkata, Hashimara, Paanagarh, and Kalaikunda bases. The Navy’s MARCOS commandos also participated. The exercise strengthened operational readiness in the eastern sector. India and China continued talks on troop de-escalation and patrolling rights in the Yangtse area of Tawang.

    5. (B) November 8

World Radiography Day was observed on November 8 to commemorate Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen’s 1895 discovery of x-rays. Roentgen accidentally discovered x-rays while experimenting with fluorescence in vacuum tubes. He captured an image of his wife’s hand bones as the first x-ray evidence, earning him the Nobel Prize in 1901. The 2024 theme, “Radiographers: Seeing the Unseen,” highlighted radiography’s role in revealing the body’s interior and the responsibility of healthcare professionals. This day honored radiographers’ contributions, raised awareness of radiographic therapy, and promoted radiography as a career in modern healthcare.
