    EXPLANATIONS

    1. (B) Ministry of Finance

    Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the National MSME Cluster Outreach Programme. The program is a joint effort by the Department of Financial Services and SIDBI. It aims to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across India. The initiative will enhance financial access and resources for MSMEs, fostering their growth. The program also seeks to strengthen MSME clusters and address their specific needs.

    2. (B) New Delhi

    The Defence Space Agency has launched India’s first space exercise, Antariksha Abhyas – 2024, in New Delhi. This exercise focuses on addressing growing threats to space-based assets and services. It aims to secure national strategic space objectives and integrate India’s space capabilities into military operations. The exercise will deepen understanding of operational dependencies on space assets and identify vulnerabilities if space services are disrupted. Participants include the Defence Space Agency, Army, Navy, Air Force, and specialist branches like the Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, and Strategic Forces Command.

    3. (A) Skin disease

    Researchers from Australia and Germany have successfully cured patients with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) for the first time. TEN, also called Lyell’s syndrome, is a rare and life-threatening skin disease. It is the most severe form of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS). TEN and SJS are typically caused by reactions to certain medications, such as antibiotics or anticonvulsants. People with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of developing SJS or TEN.

    4. (C) Arunachal Pradesh and Assam

    Power generation at the controversial Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is set to begin next year. The project is a gravity dam under construction on the Subansiri River, located on the borders of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It is a run-of-river hydroelectric project and will be the largest in India once completed. The dam will be 116 meters high from the river bed and 130 meters from the foundation, with a length of 284 meters. Developed by National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), the project will generate 2,000 MW from eight 250 MW units upon completion.

    5. (B) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India

    The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India hosted the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) in Delhi. The event was organized by the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT). APT is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1979 to promote ICT development in the Asia-Pacific. APT was established with support from UNESCAP and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). APT currently has 38 member countries, 4 associate members, and over 140 affiliate members, including private companies and academic institutions involved in ICT.
