1. (A) Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai
President of India Draupadi Murmu has nominated Supreme Court Judge Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai as the new Acting Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). Justice Gavai will replace Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who previously held the post. As per the convention of NALSA, the post of Executive Chairperson is held by the second senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
2. (A) Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)
DRDO recently conducted the first flight test of its Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM). The LRLACM can launch from mobile ground-based systems and frontline ships using a universal vertical launch module. It can perform complex maneuvers at various speeds and altitudes, showcasing precision and versatility. Equipped with advanced avionics and software, it follows terrain-hugging paths, making it harder to detect and intercept. Developed by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment with support from BDL and BEL. Approved as a Mission Mode Project by the Defence Acquisition Council, the successful test boosts India’s long-range precision strike capabilities.

With an aim to promote sports in the country, the world’s first high-altitude para sports centre will soon be set up in Leh, Ladakh. For this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, and the Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF).

The Indian Navy will conduct the fourth ‘Pan-India’ Coastal Defence Exercise ‘Sea Vigil-24’ on November 20-21, 2024. This large-scale exercise involves six ministries, 21 organizations, and covers all coastal states, UTs, Lakshadweep, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Coastal Defence & Security Readiness Evaluation (CDSRE) phase began in October to audit coastal defence infrastructure. For the first time, officials from the National Security Council Secretariat will join CDSRE teams, along with State Marine Police, Coast Guard, and Fisheries. The exercise aims to protect coastal assets and involve local communities, with participants from the Indian Army, Air Force, and the fishing community

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the 43rd edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. It is being organised from 14-27 November. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are partner states at IITF 2024, Jharkhand is the focus state. IITF tickets are available at 55 Delhi Metro stations, DMRC mobile app, ITPO website.

A new tiger has been spotted in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra, boosting wildlife tourism. The reserve is located in the Sahyadri Ranges of the Western Ghats and covers 741.22 sq. km. It was formed in 2007 by merging Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Chandoli National Park. The reserve includes the Shivsagar and Vasant Sagar reservoirs. Historically, it dates back to the Maratha Empire, with forts linked to Shivaji Maharaj. The terrain is steep with rocky plateaus, thorny bushes, and minimal anthropogenic influence, supporting rich vegetation.

NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched in 1977, made historic flybys of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, becoming the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune. It discovered new moons, rings, and phenomena like Uranus’ magnetic field and Neptune’s “Great Dark Spot.” Voyager 2 carried a Golden Record with sounds and images from Earth, meant for potential extraterrestrial life. After its primary mission, Voyager 2 entered interstellar space in 2018, becoming the second human-made object to do so. It continues sending data from the interstellar medium, now the second most distant human-made object from Earth.
