    Returns to Earth


    After an 18-day mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and the Axiom Mission-4 (Ax-4) crew safely returned to Earth on July 15, 2025.

    Splashdown Details:

    •  The SpaceX Dragon capsule successfully splashed down off the San Diego coast (U.S.) at 3:02 p.m. IST on July 15.
    • The mission lasted 18 days, covering 320 orbits and 8.4 million miles.

    •  It involved over 60 research experiments and 23 outreach evenmile

    Indian Representation:

    • Shubhanshu Shukla, an IAF officer, was a key astronaut on the mission.
    •  His participation is seen as a major step towards India’s Gaganyaan Mission.
    •  It represents India’s entry into commercial crewed space missions.

    Crew Members:

    •  Peggy Whitson (Commander) – former NASA astronaut.
    • Slawosz Uznanski (Poland) – European astronaut.
    •  Norbert Kapar (Hungary) – European astronaut.

    Recovery Operations:

    • The capsule opened 50 minutes post-splashdown
    • Astronauts were retrieved by the SpaceX recovery team.
    • The operation was described as a “textbook splashdown,” with successful deployment of drogue and main parachutes

    Rehabilitation Plan

    •  ISRO announced a rehabilitation phase for Group Captain Shukla.
    •  This phase will last about 1 week.
    •  It will be conducted under the supervision of flight surgeons to help him adapt back to Earth’s gravity.

    Gaganyaan Mission:
