    Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged all Indians to visit the forts of the Maratha Military Landscapes, recently inscribed on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List, emphasizing their significance to India’s glorious history and strategic vision.

    Key Highlights:

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the appeal on Saturday.

    The Maratha Military Landscapes have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

    The landscapes consist of 12 majestic forts.

    11 of these forts are located in Maharashtra, and one is in Tamil Nadu.

    PM Modi highlighted the Maratha Empire’s association with good governance, military strength, cultural pride, and emphasis on social welfare.

    He noted that the great Maratha rulers inspire with their refusal to bow to any injustice.

    The inscription took place at the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee on Friday.

    “Maratha Military Landscapes of India” became India’s 44th property to receive this UNESCO recognition.

    The network of forts spans from the 17th to 19th centuries CE.

    According to the Union Culture Ministry, this network demonstrates the strategic military vision and architectural ingenuity of the Maratha Empire.

    Selected sites in Maharashtra include Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg, and Sindhudurg.

    Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu is also part of the selected sites.

    Pratapgad Fort, near Mahabaleshwar, is specifically mentioned as a must-visit.
