    The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation’s (TGSRTC) Mahalaxmi Scheme, a pioneering initiative offering free bus travel to women and transgender persons, has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 200 crore free trips.

    The initiative is known as the Mahalaxmi Scheme.

    It is implemented by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).

    The scheme provides free bus travel to women and transgender persons across the state.

    The scheme has successfully crossed an impressive 200 crore free trips since its inception.

    The Mahalaxmi Scheme was officially launched on December 9, 2023.

    It has led to a significant 24% increase in daily ridership across the TGSRTC network.

    Following the scheme’s implementation, women now constitute a dominant 66.74% of all passengers on TGSRTC buses, demonstrating its widespread adoption and utility.

    The scheme has played a crucial role in making the RTC profitable, addressing previous financial challenges.

    Government Reimbursement:

       The Telangana government has effectively supported the

    scheme by reimbursing ₹1,680 crore to the TGSRTC, based on the total number of free trips taken.
