Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme
Why in News?
Union Home Secretary launched this scheme during the 20th Formation Day celebration of the National Disaster Management Authority. Over two lakh 37 thousand volunteers trained under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme.
Vision:
The scheme is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of creating a disaster-resilient India through proactive community engagement and training.
Implementation Strategy
• Capacity Building and Community Engagement for effective disaster management.
• It is set to be implemented in 315 disaster-prone districts in the country with the release of National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
About National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF):
• It is a crucial financial mechanism established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to provide immediate relief and assistance in the wake of natural and man-made disasters.
• NDRF was created to supplement the State Disaster Response Funds (SDRF) in cases where state funds are insufficient to manage severe disasters.
• It is placed in the “Public Account” of India.
Financial assistance for various disasters, including:
• Natural calamities such as cyclones, droughts, earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, landslides, and pest attacks.
• Man-made disasters like terrorist attacks and chemical or biological incidents
